You are being invited to take part in a research study titled “AI-Based Multimodal Estimation of eGFR
Using Kidney Ultrasound and Clinical Parameters”. Before you decide, it is important for you to
understand why the research is being done and what it will involve. Please take time to read the
following information carefully and discuss it with friends, relatives and your doctors if you wish. Ask
us if there is anything that is not clear or if you would like more information. Thank you for reading

What is the purpose of the study?
The purpose of this study is to develop and test an Artificial Intelligence (AI) model that can
detect and predict chronic kidney diseases at an early stage.

Why have I been chosen?
You have been chosen to participate because you had a kidney ultrasound and kidney-related laboratory
tests as part of your clinical care. The clinical information you provide is good enough to train and
test the AI model. The information is provided voluntarily.

Do I have to take part?
Your participation is completely voluntary and will not affect your level of medical care at the
Health Centre. You may opt not to participate in the study at any time.

What will happen to me if I take part?
If you agree to participate, you will allow the research team to access and use
(i) Your kidney ultrasound images, and
(ii) Your laboratory reports related to kidney function
No extra procedures or examinations will be required.

What do I have to do?
You will not be required to attend any extra appointments or undergo additional tests. Your
anonymized data will be used for research purposes. No identifiable information will be accessed, and
you will not be contacted.

What are the possible risks of taking part?
Participation in this research study does not involve any known risks.

What are the possible benefits of taking part?
You may not receive direct personal benefit from taking part in this study. But your participation
may contribute to the development of improved tools for early detection of chronic kidney diseases.
The findings could support earlier diagnosis, better monitoring, and more effective treatment
strategies for future patients.

Will my taking part in this study be kept confidential?
Your information will be handled in a confidential manner and protected according to institutional
policies and applicable laws. The research dataset will no longer contain your name or any other
direct identifiers. Data will be kept in a safe, password-protected system with controlled access.

What will happen to the results of the research study?
The findings of the study may be published or discussed in conferences or at scientific meetings.
Only a collection of findings will be described in these results. Your private medical information
will not be disclosed, and no specific participant will be identified. The results of the research
study are used to improve early detection of chronic kidney disease.
About 20% of the total data, collected in an irreversible anonymized manner, will be part of
benchmarking and open data initiative of TANUH for evaluation of AI algorithms.

The research study is being organized at the TANUH, The AI CoE and funded by a research grant from
Ministry of Education, Government of India.

The research study has been reviewed by the CLINICOM, Independent Ethics Committee for Evaluation of
Protocols for Clinical Research, Bangalore 560003.
